On a warm evening in 1993, a captivated audience gathered in Tel Aviv, Israel, as the legendary Leonard Cohen stepped onto the stage. As the crowd eagerly awaited his performance, Cohen, whose Jewish heritage influenced his work, shared a touching story that would leave a lasting impact on all who listened.

Cohen performed his song "Dance Me to the End of Love,". The song was inspired by a visit to a concentration camp during World War II, where he learned about a group of musicians who played for the prisoners.

Cohen said that the musicians "knew they were going to die," but they believed that their music could offer some sense of hope, even in the darkest of times. He dedicated the song to those musicians who had perished in the Holocaust.

Before beginning the performance, Cohen addressed the audience with the Hebrew word "Shalom," which means "peace." In this context, Cohen used the word to convey his desire for peace and understanding, not only in Israel but around the world.

Leonard Cohen passed away on November 7, 2016, but his music and messages of love, hope and peace continue to resonate with fans worldwide.
